About us
We are a small but experienced team of specialist nurses offering pre and post operative support, advice, teaching and practical care as required. We see our ward patients and run clinic appointments daily alongside our phone and email consultations.
How we help
Our aim is to support Ostomists on their journey from before surgery and subsequently for as long or often as required. We offer psychological as well as practical support for day to day living as well as specific problem solving. We have access to a wealth of written information and can help direct you towards any additional support you may need. The links provided below access a plethora of information provided by our charities including Cancerwise where we hold a monthly patient support group (contact Cancerwise for details).
What happens at your appointment
If you are pre operative and your surgery is planned, we meet with you to discuss the implications of stoma formation and provide written information so you know what to expect. We usually coordinate this with pre operative assessment to save you extra trips to the hospital but can be flexible to suit your individual preference.
If you have an existing stoma, and you have asked to see us for practical support, please bring spare supplies as we will usually need to have a look at the stoma and surrounding skin and replace the bag. We have a large stock of alternative products should we need to make any changes.
Most appointment times allow for 30 minutes and are pre booked with us.
Where we are
The Stoma Care message line is an answer machine and email advice service and is not for emergencies.
