How we help
Our surgical teams specialise in the surgical care of children and carry out a range of minor and major operations every day. Most children have their surgery as a day case meaning they can rest and recover in their own home supported by the community nursing team.
Surgery at The Alex children’s hospital
With three state of the art children’s operating theatres The Alex in Brighton is a leading surgical centre in the region for babies, children and young people.
We have an on-call team available all day, every day. This includes a junior doctor on site, a paediatric surgical registrar and an on-call paediatric surgical consultant.
For major and complex operations, our specialist Surgical High Dependency Unit (HDU) provides a high level of post-surgery nursing and medical support at the hospital.
The surgery team also work with the Trevor Mann Baby Unit to provide care to newborn babies who may be born up to 17 weeks prematurely.
Surgery at Worthing and St Richard’s hospitals, and East Surrey Hospital
We also provide day case operations at St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester, Worthing Hospital and East Surrey Hospital in Redhill.
