University Hospitals Sussex has won the Health Tech Award for Partnership of the Year for their innovative work to improve patient care.
The partnership with e18 Innovation and Netcall uses advanced technology to make administrative tasks easier, which helps reduce waiting lists and improves overall efficiency.
The Trust’s innovative project, led by Donna Steeles, Assistant Director of Performance and Improvement, also earned them a finalist spot in the Most Promising Pilot category.
She said: “This project has made it easier for us to communicate with patients and understand their health needs without adding extra work for our staff.
“I’m thrilled that our team’s hard work has been recognised. This project has made a big difference for our patients and will continue to do so.”
The project has achieved remarkable results, including an 80% response rate and the removal of over 13% of patients who no longer need to be on waiting lists. It has also saved more than 266 hours per week on manual data entry, allowing staff to focus more on planned care and further reducing waiting lists.
Donna added: “A big thank you to everyone who helped implement this project and to my colleagues who worked so hard to make it a success!”
The project involved using Netcall’s waiting list validation solution to contact patients waiting for their first appointment. Reminders are sent via text message, email, and letters with QR codes. e18 Innovation’s intelligent automation manages responses and updates the hospital’s patient administration system.
UHSussex is dedicated to enhancing patient care through innovative initiatives like this one. By utilising advancements in digital and technology areas, the Trust aims to improve quicker diagnoses and enhance access to care for people throughout Sussex.
