Biography
Jo Clark was appointed as consultant orthodontist at St. Richard’s Hospital and Worthing Hospital in 2000. She undertook her undergraduate dental training at University College London, and her post-graduate orthodontic training at the Eastman Dental Institute and Bristol Dental Hospital. During her training she was awarded the Gold Medal in the Royal College of Surgeons Fellowship examination; and the award for best clinical student in her year at the Eastman Dental Institute.
During her Consultant post she has chaired the West Sussex Local Orthodontic Committee, and the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Managed Clinical Network for Orthodontics. She is currently the Maxillofacial Unit Clinical Lead. She has published widely in the orthodontic and dental literature and given presentations at the British Orthodontic Conference.
Jo undertakes orthodontic treatment for children and adults, using the full range of fixed and removable braces. Her particular areas of interest are the management of patients with missing teeth (hypodontia) and the management of patients with severe jaw discrepancies requiring orthognathic treatment (jaw surgery).
The department provides advice and treatment plans for local specialist orthodontic practitioners and treatment for the most complex malocclusions. The department trains junior orthodontists and is linked with the Eastman Dental Institute in London to provide this training. The Orthodontists work closely with colleagues in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Restorative Dentistry. The department has access to the latest diagnostic imaging techniques, with Cone Beam CT scanning, and intra-oral digital scanning.
Jo is married to a consultant surgeon and has 2 grown up children. In her spare time she likes to walk in the local countryside and is a keen swimmer.
