Biography
Qualifications: MB ChB 1998, FRCPCH, Master of Medical Science in Child Health (Distinction)
Michaela qualified from the University of Leeds in 1998 and trained in Paediatrics in the Yorkshire Deanery. Following completion of Paediatric training she undertook Fellowships in Paediatric Emergency Medicine at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, and the Sheffield Children’s Hospital in the UK. Michaela is a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and holds a Master of Medical Science degree in Child Health from the University of Leeds.
Michaela specialises in Paediatric Emergency Medicine and Critical Care at the Alex, working primarily in the Children’s Emergency Department looking after children who attend the Alex’s A&E. Her particular interest is in managing trauma and she is the Paediatric Trauma Lead for the Alex and for the Sussex Trauma Network. Michaela’s other clinical responsibilities are to the Alex’s Short Stay and Children’s Critical Care Units, and she also helps to support the Paediatric Burns service and holds regular general paediatric clinics at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead.
Michaela’s other roles include: personal tutor to undergraduate students attending the Brighton and Sussex Medical School, core membership of the Child Death Overview Panel for Sussex, and executive committee membership of the Association of Paediatric Emergency Medicine.
