Biography
Dr Li completed his undergraduate medical training at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, University of London in 1993. His BSc degree is in Medical Biochemistry. After general medical training he underwent specialist training in Gastroenterology on the South East Thames Regional Rotation including at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospitals and Kings College Hospital. He spent several years in research at the Rayne Institute at St Thomas’ Hospital to study aspects of intestinal iron absorption and the supervision of clinical drug trials on patients with Crohn’s Disease.
Dr Li was appointed to his current NHS consultant post at Worthing Hospital in 2004. He is on the Specialist Register for Gastroenterology and General (Internal) Medicine.
His clinical role is the care of patients with general gastroenterology problems. He runs subspecialist Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) clinics for the diagnosis and management of Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s disease. He performs routine and emergency endoscopy of the upper and lower gut including OGD, Colonoscopy and Flexible Sigmoidoscopy.
He is the Worthing Hospital representative on the Specialist Training Committee for Gastroenterology for Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deanery. He is actively involved in the training of junior doctors, medical students and nurses. He is the founder and clinical lead for IBD services for Worthing Hospital and instigated the recruitment of IBD nurses and the establishment of IBD Multidisciplinary Teams and Patient Panels for West Sussex. He is also the head of endoscopy training for Worthing Hospital.
He is still actively recruiting to clinical trials in Worthing Hospital that reflect his clinical interests. Dr Li is involved in multiple studies looking at genetic and therapeutic aspects of inflammatory bowel disease, safety of biologic therapies in inflammatory bowel disease and new ways of diagnosing gastrointestinal malignancy.
