The finance team are Star of the Month winners for June thanks to their outstanding achievements, completing the first set of annual accounts for UHSussex.
With more than 150 staff, the finance team have integrated financial systems and produced a consolidated set of accounts for the newly merged Trust alongside working with new auditors, resulting in them receiving four nominations for Star of the Month.
Former Non-Executive Director Jon Furmston said in his nomination: “Changing the ledger that records all the financial transactions is a bit like changing airplanes whilst in flight – high risk and scope for disaster.
“The finance team have worked with huge dedication and high professionalism.”
Deputy Chair and Non-Executive Director Patrick Boyle added: “I have seen first-hand the huge achievements the finance team have had over the past year.
“Often the work of the finance team is unseen across the wider organisation, but they make a substantial contribution to the achievement of True North and Breakthrough objectives enabling the organisation to deliver the best possible care to our patients.”
With the finance team working on all sites, Chief Financial Officer Karen Geoghegan and Director of Finance Clare Stafford presented the award virtually via Microsoft Teams before visiting each of the sites in person over the coming weeks.
Speaking to the finance team, Karen said: “I am immensely proud of what you have achieved against a really challenging year and you have conducted and risen to the challenge with professionalism, striving to provide the highest possible standards.”
Chief Executive Dr George Findlay and Non-Executive Director Lizzie Peers visited St Richard’s to congratulate the team. George said: “I hope this small token of our appreciation goes a long way in showing how much your contributions are valued by myself, Karen, the wider executive team and the board.
“You should be really proud of yourselves. Thank you for everything you do.”
