We are pleased to announce the appointment of Siobhan Murray who will be joining the Trust in a new leadership role as Managing Director, with responsibility for our Medicine and Urgent Care Services, Women and Children and Clinical Support Services.
Born in Yorkshire and a renal dietitian by training, Siobhan moved into operational management in 2012 and has a specialist interest in medicine and emergency care. She will work closely with Ben Stevens, the new lead for elective care and cancer, and is due to start in September.
Siobhan is currently the Group Director of Emergency Care Improvement at Barts Health NHS Trust. She is also the Co-Chair of the North East London Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Working Group.
“I’ve been focussed on urgent and emergency care for the last three and a half years, working across four hospital sites and with system partners to guide and report on improvement plans. I’m really proud of the strong relationships I’ve built, and the changes my work has helped to deliver.
“The insights I’ve gained at Barts’ will be invaluable to my new role at UHSussex, particularly in terms of addressing pressures in Accident & Emergency departments and increasing bed capacity. I’m looking forward to getting started at the largest Trust on the South Coast, working collaboratively with teams on the ground to shape patient experiences for the better.”
A keen fitness enthusiast, Siobhan plans to cycle between hospital sites from her new home in Worthing. Describing herself as a “people person through and through”, she can’t wait to get out and about meeting teams – not before she takes on cycling across the Pyrenees as a guide rider for the Headcase Cancer Trust.
Ben Stevens, a paediatric nurse by background, has already started his role as Managing Director for Planned Care and Cancer, following an interim position as Chief Operating Officer. Sharing his priorities, Ben says: “I am passionate about us getting to a position where we have significantly reduced the amount of time that our patients are waiting for elective care.
“Working with Siobhan to ensure we balance and meet the needs of all our patients and their families across services, will be key to this.”
