- Telephone St Richards Switchboard dial “0” from an internal telephone or from your mobile dial 01243 788122 and wait for the operator.
- Provide your contact telephone number and address.
- The operator will contact the Duty Engineer who will contact you at the earliest opportunity for details of the emergency repair and a contractor will be called out as appropriate.
An emergency repair is defined as follows:
- Total loss of electrical power
- Unsafe electrical work
- Blocked drains
- Major plumbing repairs, i.e. burst pipes
- Door and window repairs where security is at risk
- Dangerous structures
- Loss of heating and hot water, but only where health is at risk
- Flooding
- Gas leaks (call the free emergency Gas service 0800 111 999 even if you suspect the leak is not within your own dwelling).
Fire is dealt with via a separate procedure for your accommodation. Please note that the Trust reserves the right to recharge for any costs resulting from a contractor being called out if subsequently found that the repair was not an emergency repair.

- The operator will contact a contractor who will make direct contact with you to confirm that they are attending the call out.
It must be emphasised this is for genuine emergency repairs only such as:
- Total loss of electrical power (please check your fuse box to see if it has tripped before calling).
- Gas leaks – call the National Gas Emergency Service immediately on 0800 111 999 or via textphone (minicom) on 0800 371 787, even if the leak is not in your own dwelling.
- Unsafe electrical work.
- Blocked drains.
- Major plumbing repairs ie: burst pipes, flooding/un-containable leaks (check for location of your mains water stopcock).
- Doors and window repairs, where security is at risk.
- Dangerous structures.
- Loss of heating or hot water, but only where health is at risk. Showers are available in the hospital in the housekeeping corridor.
Maintenance and repairs in Park Road are the responsibility of Worthing Homes Ltd, not the hospital works department.
Please note that Worthing Homes and the Trust reserves the right to recharge for any costs resulting from a contractor being called out if the repair is subsequently found not to be an emergency repair.
