Biography
Cassie has been a Consultant Neonatologist at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust since 2002.
Since 2020, she is also a neonatal clinical advisor to the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch (HSIB NHS England).
Her areas of particular interest are patient safety and human factors, a thread that has run through her career. She’s been a finalist for two national safety awards, in 2018 and 2019, for her human factors work on the neonatal unit using immediate debriefing to reduce risk through improved teamwork and culture change.
Cassie set up the Sussex Neonatal Transport Service in 2002 and was the chair of the UK Neonatal Transport Group between 2015 and 2018. She’s also held the positions of Joint Lead for Neonatal Services and Lead for Simulation, Human Factors and Technology Enhanced Learning at the Royal Sussex County Hospital and Princess Royal University Hospital.
She’s worked with the Resus Council UK and The Advanced Life Support Group as a member of the working groups to develop three national courses around neonatal advanced resuscitation, safe transfer and retrieval.
